HPEP Nevada WICHE/USU Veterinary School Stipend
What is Nevada WICHE/Utah State University College of Veterinary Medicine Health Professional Education Program (HPEP) Stipend?
The Nevada Office of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) entered into a contract with Utah State University (USU) for $8,000,000 to provide stipend to reduce the cost of out-of-state tuition for 70 residents of the State of Nevada to earn a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the College of Veterinary Medicine at USU during the period from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2034. The contract was approved by the Nevada WICHE Commissioners in April of 2024 and Nevada Interim Finance Committee in June 2024.
- You must be a Nevada resident for at least one (1) year prior to applying. You must maintain your Nevada residency while in school.
- Acceptance to fall 2025 USU College of Veterinary Medicine Four-Year Program.
- Commitment after graduation and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine licensure in the State of Nevada to fulfill your four (4) year practice obligation for receiving four (4) years of stipends.
- Demographic such as full name, address, phone, email address.
- Previous education and employment history.
- Start and anticipated graduation date from USU College of Veterinary Medicine Four-Year program.
- Copy of current Nevada driver’s license demonstrating issue date on year prior to application. *If Nevada driver’s license has expired will also need copy of first page of last US Federal Tax Return showing Nevada address.
- Copy of USU College of Veterinary Medicine Four-Year program acceptance letter for fall 2025.
- Copy of answers to questions provided on USU College of Veterinary Medicine Four-Year program application.
- Your funding is paid directly to your school on your behalf. You will still be responsible for the balance of tuition and fees as determined by your school.
- Funds will be reserved for you during the program contingent upon your compliance with Nevada WICHE/USU College of Veterinary Science HPEP Stipend program requirements and good academic performance.
- Upon graduation and licensure, you must return and physically reside in Nevada, and practice (employment) in the profession for which you received assistance. Funding must be repaid in service to the State of Nevada within one year after the completion of your education. The participant has up to five years to fulfill their service obligation.
- One year of full-time employment is required for each year of funding received. If you fail to fulfill the employment requirement, your stipend will convert to a loan with accrued interest and applicable penalties.
- To demonstrate compliance, you are required to complete an online Practice Questionnaire with supporting documentation twice a year (every six months).
